Carmarthen Bay and Estuaries European Marine Site (EMS) is part of a European-wide network of areas - the Natura 2000 series - designated under the European Union’s Habitats and Birds Directives to safeguard habitats and species that are important and threatened on a European scale.  

Three marine Natura 2000 sites together form the European Marine Site – Carmarthen Bay and Estuaries Special Area of Conservation (SAC), Carmarthen Bay Special Protection Area (SPA) and Burry inlet SPA.

It is produced by the relevant authorities responsible for developing and implementing a management scheme for the Site and it the replaces the former Carmarthen Bay candidate Special Area of Conservation website (carmarthenbaysac.org.uk), which has now been closed down.
